Humantay Lake Day Tour

Experience the magic of the Andes on a one-day Humantay Lake trek. Hike through breathtaking mountain scenery to reach the striking turquoise waters of Humantay Lake, set beneath snow-capped peaks. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views, fresh mountain air, and a glimpse of traditional Andean landscapes—an unforgettable adventure packed into a single day.

The adventure begins with an early pick-up from your hotel in Cusco (around 4:30 a.m.). We’ll travel to the town of Mollepata, where a hearty breakfast will be served.

After breakfast, we continue to Soraypampa (3,850 m), the starting point and first campsite of the famous Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. From here, we begin our hike to Humantay Lake (4,200 m), walking through stunning Andean landscapes. On clear days, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the sacred Apus—the mountain spirits—Salkantay and Humantay.

The ascent takes approximately 1.5 hours and is of moderate difficulty due to the altitude and steep terrain, but the reward is well worth the effort as the brilliant turquoise lake comes into view. For those who prefer not to hike the entire way, horse rental is available.

At the lake, you’ll have plenty of time to take photos, make an offering to the Apus, and—if the weather allows—the bravest may even take a refreshing swim. After some free time, we descend back to Soraypampa in about 1.5 hours, an easier walk than the ascent. Lunch will be served before we begin our return journey to Cusco, arriving at approximately 5:30 p.m..
