OVERVIEW

Step back in time on a fascinating day tour from Lima to Pachacamac, one of Peru’s most important pre-Columbian archaeological sites. Located along the Pacific coast just south of the city, Pachacamac was once a major ceremonial and pilgrimage center visited by ancient civilizations for more than a thousand years, long before the arrival of the Incas.

During this excursion, you’ll explore impressive adobe pyramids, temples, and sacred plazas while learning about the cultures that shaped the site, including the Lima, Wari, and Inca civilizations. Highlights include the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of Pachacamac, and panoramic views of the surrounding desert and ocean.

This half- or full-day experience offers a perfect cultural escape from Lima, combining history, archaeology, and coastal scenery while providing deeper insight into Peru’s rich ancient heritage.

ITINERARY

The experience begins with a visit to Barranco, Lima’s most bohemian and artistic district. You’ll explore its charming main square, the iconic Bridge of Sighs, the monument dedicated to Chabuca Granda, La Ermita Church, and the traditional Bajada de Baños walkway, all framed by elegant republican-era architecture and scenic views of the Pacific Ocean.

The tour then continues to Chorrillos, a historic coastal district that originated as a small fishing village. Its name comes from the natural freshwater springs that once flowed from the cliffs down toward Agua Dulce Beach, shaping the area’s early identity and development.

Next, travel to the Pachacamac Archaeological Sanctuary, the most important ceremonial center on Peru’s coast for more than 1,200 years. This remarkable complex housed the revered oracle of the god Pachacamac, a powerful deity believed to control earthquakes and draw pilgrims from across ancient Peru. Its temples, pyramids, and sacred spaces reveal the profound spiritual and political influence the site held within the Andean world.

The journey concludes with a cultural and gastronomic experience at D’Paso Hacienda restaurant, where Peruvian traditions come to life through music, folkloric dances, and an elegant exhibition of the renowned Peruvian Paso Horse, creating a vibrant and memorable finale.
