OVERVIEW

This 13-day itinerary takes families through three distinct regions of Peru: Lima, the Amazon rainforest, and the Sacred Valley, ending in Cusco. It combines city touring and a hands-on cooking class in Lima, three days at an Amazon lodge with guided wildlife excursions, a full Sacred Valley circuit including an alpaca walk and the Maras salt mines, a visit to Machu Picchu, and a Cusco city and archaeological sites tour. The pacing balances active days with rest, and includes a mix of cultural, culinary, and nature-based activities suited to travelers of different ages.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 | ARRIVAL IN LIMA

On landing at Jorge Chávez International Airport, you’ll be met by a Peru Jamuy representative who will handle your transfer to the hotel.

  • Overnight in Lima.

DAY 2 | LIMA: COLONIAL CENTER & MODERN NEIGHBORHOODS

The day starts around 9:00–9:30 a.m. with a look at Lima’s contemporary side — Miraflores and San Isidro — including a stop at Parque del Amor, home to Victor Delfín’s “The Kiss” sculpture and its mosaic-tiled Gaudí-inspired benches. You’ll also take in the buzz of Kennedy Park and the surrounding shops and cafés.

En route, you’ll pass two pre-Hispanic sites viewed from outside — Huaca Pucllana and Huaca Huallamarca — both striking for how they sit right in the middle of the modern city.

From there, the tour moves into Lima’s UNESCO-listed Historic Center for a walking visit past the Main Square, Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Government and City Halls, plus the Church of San Francisco. You’ll go inside the Convent of Santo Domingo — burial site of Saint Rose of Lima, Saint Martín de Porres, and Saint John Macías — which holds a library of 15th-century texts and marks the founding location of San Marcos University, the oldest in the Americas. The tour wraps up with a return to your hotel.

  • Overnight in Lima.
  • Meals: Breakfast.

DAY 3 | MARKET VISIT + COOKING CLASS AT URBAN KITCHEN

Today is hands-on: Urban Kitchen offers a lively, interactive introduction to Peruvian cooking. Things typically kick off with a guided walk through a local market, where you’ll learn how food shapes Peruvian identity and history. From there, you’ll head to the kitchen for a guided cooking class — preparing your own dishes while your instructor covers the roots of Peruvian gastronomy and the international influences that have made it globally renowned. Once the cooking wraps up, you’ll sit down restaurant-style to eat what you made.

Expect the whole experience to run 3–3.5 hours: about 40 minutes at the market, a 15-minute transfer, 1 hour 15 minutes of cooking, and an hour for the meal — though timing can shift depending on the group’s pace. Afterward, you’ll be brought back to your hotel.

  • Overnight in Lima.
  • Meals: Breakfast; tasting menu (counts as lunch).

DAY 4 | LIMA → PUERTO MALDONADO → INKATERRA RESERVA AMAZÓNICA (3D/2N)

After landing in Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be driven to the river port to start the Amazon leg of the trip by motorized canoe — a 45-minute ride down the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica, deep in the rainforest.

Once you arrive, there’s a short orientation before you settle into your cabin at this private ecological reserve, run by Inkaterra since 1975. After lunch, the afternoon is yours to relax — hammock optional.

Later, you’ll join your Inkaterra guide for one of the included excursions; the Trail System walk is a good option, taking you past massive rainforest trees and wildlife like monkeys and sloths. As night falls, the Twilight River excursion reveals a different side of the jungle, with a chance to spot nightjars, owls, capybaras, and caimans.

Dinner is served in the main dining room between 7 and 10 p.m., built around Amazonian ingredients and paired with a complimentary Pisco Sour. You’ll fall asleep to the sounds of the forest.

  • Overnight at Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica.
  • Check-in: 1:00 p.m.
  • Meals: Lunch and dinner.

DAY 5 | INKATERRA RESERVA AMAZÓNICA (3D/2N)

Breakfast is served buffet-style from 5:30 a.m. This morning takes you to Lake Sandoval, inside the Tambopata National Reserve, by dugout canoe through narrow channels flanked by palms.

Keep an eye out for tropical birds, howler monkeys, macaws, turtles, black caimans, anacondas, and — if you’re lucky — the giant river otter. You’ll be back at the lodge in time for lunch.

In the afternoon, the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway takes you up to 38 meters above the forest floor via a series of hanging bridges, with good odds of spotting toucans, trogons, woodpeckers, monkeys, and sloths. Those who want more can stay for sunset drinks at the observation tower or book a night in a treetop cabin (both optional add-ons).

Back on the ground, you’ll walk the Anaconda Walk — a 200-meter elevated boardwalk through a seasonally flooded aguajal forest, home to amphibians, birds, and a wide range of plant life. Once back at the lodge, choose between a nature talk at the Eco Center or a spa treatment. À la carte dinner starts at 7 p.m.

  • Overnight at Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

DAY 6 | INKATERRA RESERVA AMAZÓNICA → PUERTO MALDONADO → CUSCO

Your last morning in the reserve is free to enjoy the surroundings — home to more than 540 bird species. Check-out is at 10:00 a.m.; lunch can be arranged for an extra charge if your flight timing allows. You’ll then take a 45-minute boat ride back upriver to the airport for your flight to Cusco.

Note: this three-day jungle program is a suggested outline — excursions can be chosen à la carte on-site and may change based on weather. Boat luggage is limited to 8–10 kg (22 lb); anything extra can be stored at the lodge’s town facility.

  • Overnight in the Sacred Valley.
  • Meals: Breakfast.

DAY 7 | SACRED VALLEY: PISAC & OLLANTAYTAMBO

Pickup is between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. for a full day exploring the Sacred Valley. First stop is Pisac, an Inca hilltop site known for its terraced hillsides and temple architecture, followed by its well-known handicraft market. Lunch is a buffet in Urubamba. In the afternoon, you’ll visit Ollantaytambo — a fortress town with massive stonework and Inca canals still in use, and one of the few settlements continuously inhabited since pre-Hispanic times — before heading back to your hotel.

  • Overnight in the Sacred Valley.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch.

DAY 8 | ALPACA THERAPY IN UMASBAMBA + MARAS & MORAY

Pickup runs 8:00–8:30 a.m. The day begins in Chinchero, an Andean village where local traditions are still very much alive.

After a welcome from the community, you’ll take part in “Alpaca Therapy” — walking ancient Inca paths alongside alpacas and llamas, with mountain views and live Andean music setting the mood. The morning includes visits to sacred sites and closes with an organic picnic lunch in the countryside.

In the afternoon, you’ll head to Moray, the Incas’ circular agricultural terraces built for crop experimentation, followed by the Maras Salt Mines — thousands of hand-worked salt pools that have been in continuous use since pre-Inca times. You’ll return to your hotel with plenty to talk about.

  • Overnight in the Sacred Valley.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch.

DAY 9 | SACRED VALLEY → MACHU PICCHU → AGUAS CALIENTES

You’ll be picked up and taken to Ollantaytambo Train Station for the train to Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu.

On arrival, a representative will walk you to your hotel to drop off luggage before continuing on to the bus station for the 30-minute ride up to Machu Picchu itself. Your guide will lead a two-hour tour through the citadel, covering its history and significance.

Afterward, you’ll bus back down to Aguas Calientes for a buffet lunch.

Note: Machu Picchu tickets are limited, so early booking matters — your entry circuit and time slot will be confirmed based on availability.

  • Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
  • Meals: Breakfast and lunch.

DAY 10 | AGUAS CALIENTES → CUSCO

The morning is free and unstructured. At the scheduled time, you’ll board the train back to Ollantaytambo, then transfer by road to your hotel in Cusco.

  • Overnight in Cusco.
  • Meals: Breakfast.

DAY 11 | CUSCO CITY TOUR & FOUR ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES

Between 12:20 and 1:00 p.m., the tour starts at Qoricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, where Inca and colonial architecture meet. From there, you’ll visit Sacsayhuamán — known for its massive stone walls and sweeping views over Cusco — followed by Qenqo, an old ceremonial site, and Puca Pucará, a former Inca checkpoint. The tour ends at Tambomachay, dedicated to water worship, before heading back into the city.

Note: the Cusco Tourist Ticket (BTC), included in this program, is personal and non-transferable, covering 16 sites across Cusco and the Sacred Valley — including Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puca Pucará, Tambomachay, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Moray, and Chinchero.

  • Overnight in Cusco.
  • Meals: Breakfast.

DAY 12 | CUSCO → LIMA

At the scheduled time, you’ll be transferred to the Cusco airport for your flight to Lima. On arrival, a representative will meet you for the transfer to your hotel, where the rest of the day is free.

  • Overnight in Lima.
  • Meals: Breakfast.

DAY 13 | DEPARTURE FROM LIMA

Transfer from your hotel to the Lima airport for your international flight.

  • Meals: Breakfast.
