Colca Canyon

Day 1: Arequipa – National Reserve – Colca Valley – Yanque

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Arequipa. Leaving the White City behind, you’ll travel through the scenic Andean highlands toward the Colca Valley.

The route passes through the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, a protected area known for its sweeping plains, volcanic peaks, and herds of wild vicuñas grazing freely. Along the way, your guide will point out native flora, wildlife, and traditional alpaca herding communities.

Continuing upward, you’ll reach Patapampa Pass (4,910 m), the highest point of the journey, offering breathtaking views of surrounding volcanoes such as Misti, Chachani, and Ampato. After time for photos, descend into the fertile Colca Valley, famous for its pre-Inca agricultural terraces still in use today.

Arrive in the traditional village of Yanque, where you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy lunch (depending on your package). In the afternoon, you may explore the village, visit its colonial church, or relax in the nearby thermal hot springs—perfect for unwinding after the journey.

In the evening, enjoy dinner and a peaceful overnight stay surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Andes.

Day 2: Yanque – Cruz del Cóndor – Colca Villages – Arequipa

After an early breakfast, depart for the highlight of the tour: the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint. Arriving in the morning maximizes your chances of seeing the majestic Andean condor riding the thermal currents rising from the canyon.

From this incredible vantage point, admire the immensity of Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons on Earth, with dramatic cliffs plunging thousands of meters below.

On the return journey, stop at several traditional villages such as Maca and Pinchollo, where you can observe local life, colonial architecture, and colorful handicraft markets. You’ll also visit scenic viewpoints showcasing ancient terraces carved into the mountainsides centuries ago.

After lunch in the Colca Valley, begin the drive back across the highlands toward Arequipa, enjoying final views of volcanoes and Andean landscapes along the way.

Arrival in Arequipa is expected in the late afternoon or early evening, marking the end of a memorable journey through one of Peru’s most iconic regions.
