Do you have free days in Cusco and feel like you’ve seen it all? Visit the impressive Inca archaeological complex of Waqrapukara, surrounded by stunning views over the Apurimac Canyon. This enigmatic fortress is located on top of a steep mountain and features eight Inca terraces with retaining walls and stone stairways.

The hike to Waqrapukara is a new and alternative day trip in the Cusco area. and is ideal for those who love to hike and are looking for adventure. We recommend doing this tour if you would like to practice for the Inca trail or Salkantay trek.

Getting there involves a 3½-hour drive from Cusco, and then a 2-hour trek.

ITINERARY

5:00 am: Hotel pick-up from your hotel in Cusco

We will then head tot he south of Cusco until we arrive to the town of Sangarará, our first stop.

This is the start of our 2 hour walk to the archaeological complex of Waqrapukara. Here, you will have free time to explore this beautiful site and take pictures.

After exploring the wonders of Waqrapukara at length, we will make our way back to Cusco. We will hike until we reach our private transportation. We will arrive back in Cusco at around 6:00 pm.
