Kuelap Day Tour

Kuelap is located in the province of Luya, 72 kilometres away from Chachapoyas. Kuélap is an important pre-inca archaeological located in the northern Andes of Peru. This site occupies an area of 6 hectares and it is surrounded by a wall that is between 10 and 20 metres high. It is believed tbat its construction started in the XI century and that the site was occupied until the middle of the XVI century. Its walls and complex interior architecture are evidence that its inhabitants came from a very well organization civilatation. Due to its structure and precise location, this pre-Inca complex served as a fortress to protect against invasions from other tribes in the area.

ITINERARY

We will depart from Chachapoyas at 8:30 am. We will travel by car until we arrive at Nuevo Tingo town, where we will get our tickets to travel in the cable car. We will travel for a few more minutes until we reach the cable car that will take us to the site. The journey will last about 20 minutes until we reach La Malca, the last stop before we enter the fortress of Kuelap.

We will walk for another 20 minutes until we reach the entrance of Kuelap.
We will have a 2 hour guided tour in this impressive site which was built during the VI century B.C. and discovered in 1843. After the tour, we will return to La Malca and then take the cable car back. We will travel to Nuevo Tingo, where we will eat lunch. After lunch, we will make our way back to Chachapoyas.

We will arrive at about 5:30 pm.
