This highlights tour offers a marvellous combination of three contrasting areas of Peru, the coast, the Andes & the Amazon jungle. Visit the beautiful colonial city of Lima, also known as the ‘City of Kings’, full of history, amazing colonial buildings and world-leading gastronomy. Next up after Lima is Cusco; filled with charm and archaeological Inca buildings, and of course, Machu Picchu, one of the ‘New 7 Wonders of the World’. You will then head to Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon jungle in full bloom, home to the Amazon river, thousands of animal species, native communities, exotic cuisine and jungle climate.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Lima – arrival

Upon your arrival in Lima, a representative of Into Peru will pick you from the airport and take you to your accommodation in the city of Lima. We recommend picking a hotel in Miraflores, San Isidro or Barranco as the most tourist-friendly areas.

Day 2: Downtown Lima

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel.

City tour in Lima, the ‘City of Kings’: Our tour shows you Lima’s three historic periods: Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Modern. Sights you will see on the tour:

  • Panoramic Tour of La Huaca Pucllana
  • Lima’s historic centre, with its palaces, stately homes, churches & squares
  • The Central Reserve Bank’s museum (closed on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and Monday all day)
  • San Francisco’s church and its incredible catacombs.
  • Lima’s financial and residential district
  • An unforgettable view of the Pacific Ocean in the Miraflores district

Day 3: Lima – Downtown Cusco

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel.

At the pre-arranged time, a representative will pick you from your hotel and take you to Lima’s airport so that you can take your flight to Cusco. Upon your arrival in Cusco, a representative of Into Peru will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to your chosen accommodation.

Cusco city tour:

Your adventure starts in the afternoon with a tour of Cusco, a beautiful colonial city which was once the capital city of the Incas and is filled with both ancient and colonial remnants alike. You will visit:

  • The stunning ‘La Iglesia de la Compañia’ church with its handcrafted wood and jewellery works.
  • The temple of the Sun also known as the Koricancha Temple, famous for its incredible hand crafted rocks.
  • The UNESCO World Heritage Sacsayhuamán, a breathtaking stone walled fortress located on the outskirts of the city
  • The ancient ruins of Kenko, Tambomachay and Puca Pucara.

After all the touring, you will have the evening to enjoy the city of Cusco and its great restaurants – be sure to ask us for some reccommendatoins. You will stay at your chosen accommodation in Cusco.

Day 4: Sacred Valley tour

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel.

You will have an early start with a visit to the Inca’s Sacred Valley

You will visit:

  • A guided short tour of the beautiful Urubamba River
  • You will visit breathtaking Inca sites including the ruins and terraces of Pisac
  • Vibrant craft markets where you can buy handcrafts and souvenirs.
  • A delicious buffet lunch in Urubamba
  • Ollaytantambo, known for its stunning ceremonial fortress.

You will have the evening to enjoy the city of Cusco and its attractions. You will stay at your chosen accommodation in Cusco.

Day 5: Machu Picchu

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel. You will be collected from your hotel early and driven to the train station outside of Cusco.

Excursion by train (Expedition service) to the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu:

In the morning, you will take this incredible train, with its stunning panoramic windows which off views of the beautiful Sacred Valley, to the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).

Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes, you will take the bus (approx 25 mins) up to the main eveent, the world famous Machu Picchu, where you will have a professional guided tour. After the tour, you will have free time to explore the ‘Wonder of the World’ at your own pace and ensure you take the perfect photos! In the afternoon, you will enjoy some free time to explore the town of Aguas Calientes and its colourful craft market before heading back to the city of Cusco where you will stay the night at your chosen accommodation.

Day 6: Cusco – Iquitos

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel. At the pre-arranged time, one of our representatives will pick you up from your accommodation to take you to Cusco airport for your flight to Iquitos. Upon arrival at the airport, an Into Peru representative will be waiting for you in Iquitos to take you to your chosen accommodation. You will then have the afternoon to yourself to explore Iquitos where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Iquitos Jungle

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel.

In the morning you will be taken to Bellavista port, located at the shore of Nanay river where you will take a boat through the Amazon river towards Yanamono jungle, known for having more than 300 tree species and is where your lodge is located.

During this journey of approximately 75 minutes, you will see where the Amazon and Nanay rivers meet, as well as the stunning jungle landscape with its picturesque local stilt houses. You will also have the opportunity to visit a native community and learn about their culture, traditional dances and handcrafts.

Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be greeted with a freshly made fruit juice and be shown to your room where you can relax for a few hours. In the afternoon, our expert tour guides will take you on a 2-hour hike in the primary jungle of the Yanamono communal reserve where you will see botanical species like the Heliconias, medicinal plants, and giant trees such as the Lupuna which is so big that it takes approximately 25 people to circle it!

During this journey, you will hear different kinds of birds such as the Rinahui, Tihuacuro and many others. If lucky, you will see little monkeys like the Pichicos, Tocones and Frailes. After the tour you will return to your accommodation where you can rest.

The last activity of the day will be a night boat tour along the Manco ravine (if the current allows) or along the Amazon River where you will experience all the lively nocturnal sounds that give the jungle such life. You will spend the night at the lodge.

Day 8: Iquitos Jungle

Breakfast will be provided at the lodge.

The birdwatching tour at the Caceres ravine will start at dawn; you will see a wide variety of birds such as Tuki, Martin Pescador, Coto Gavillan and many others. Afterwards, you will have embark on an excursion along the Amazon River and its ravines, where if you are lucky it’s possible to see pink dolphins and piranhas. In the afternoon, you will get the chance to see Yanamono Island’s impressive water lilies. In the evening, if you feel adventurous, you will have the chance to go for a walk around the lodge and observe tarantulas, fireflies, and a huge array of insects and animals that live in the Amazon. You will spend the night at the lodge.

Day 9: Iquitos Jungle

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel.

Day 3 in the jungle: At the pre-arranged time, you will visit a local town where you will experience firsthand the culture and traditions of the local Amazonian people. During this tour, you can try your hand at piranha fishing and if you are fortunate, you may catch a glimpse of the Amazon’s pink dolphins. After this, you will return to the lodge where you can rest.

Day 10: Iquitos – Lima

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel.

After breakfast, you will visit a sugar mill where you can taste different regional beverages made with local sugar cane. Afterwards, you will return to the lodge where your airport transfer will be waiting so that you can take your flight back to Lima. Upon arriving in Lima, one of our representatives will be waiting for you to take you to your chosen accommodation in Lima where you will spend the night.

Day 11: Lima – departure

Breakfast will be provided by your hotel. At the pre-arranged time, you will be taken to Lima’s airport so that you can take your international flight.
